Dahlberg & Mandelin: "Circus Laboratory" looking for dancers and circus artists

Contemporary circus group Race Horse Company is looking for four dance and circus artists to join the workshop group of the experimental Circus Laboratory. New innovative perspectives, tools and methods are sought as the two different art forms meet. The instructors of the laboratory are Race Horse Company's artistic director and circus artist Rauli Dahlberg and Jarkko Mandelin, the artistic director and choreographer of contemporary dance group Kinetic Orchestra.

The Circus Laboratory will take place from 12 to 15 September 2022 at Tapanilan Sirkussali, Helsinki, address Hiidenkiventie 21. Working hours are every day from 12 to 16 and the salary is €100 + 12% holiday pay per day. Possible working languages are Finnish and English.

The workshops focus on group and equipment work of acrobatic movement, especially with the acrobatics ball. Emphasizing presence and the moment, the way of working explores ways of creating together, the limits of teamwork and breaking them. The goal is to create a basis for each participant's 2-3 minute solo work.

Student groups from middle schools and secondary education are invited to watch the work of the Circus Laboratory as part of the company's audience development program. There are two open 45-minute exercises every day with the audience which include introduction to the artistic process and short discussion with the artistic team.

The artists participating in the circus laboratory are required to be professionals in their own field, have the ability to work in a group and have an open, innovative and curious working attitude. In addition, the applicant must have the basic skills of acrobatics. The ability and motivation to create, produce and develop your own material is an essential part of working. We encourage artists from different backgrounds to apply to Circus Laboratory.

The Circus Laboratory is supported by City of Helsinki.
